is a picturesque square in the heart of Trastevere within walking
distance to most major monuments and sights in historic Rome. It is
very convenient to transportation too. Nr. 8 tram will have you in the
heart of Rome in 10 minutes or if you prefer to walk, 15 minutes. There
is a fresh produce and meat market everyday on the square, a large
playground, various restaurants, bars and cafes, 2 well stocked
supermarkets around the corner, a winebar and even a toystore. The
Piazza is both popular with local and expat families.
Originally
Piazza San Cosimato was the Emperor Augustus's Naumachia, where mock
naval battles was performed. The piazza is named after a ninth century
Benedictine monastery San Cosimato.
Trastevere
is known for it's good restaurants and lively nightlife. Piazza Santa
Maria in Trastevere with it's beautiful medieval church famed for it's
mosaics, is a 5 minute walk away.
