The centre of this area located
in the south-west, was expressly built by Mussolini in the '30's for the World Expo to celebrate
modernity. Its name originates from “ Europa”. Many of these
Mussolini-era structures were directly inspired by imperial Roman art and architecture, albeit in a colder, more sterile form.
With the ( Square Coliseum) as its landmark, EUR
is noticeably different from other parts of the city.
These buildings are now public institutions and museums but the surrounding area features apartment buildings
and duplex houses from the '70 and '80's.
Its about a 20 minutes drive to Rome centre along large avenues lined with trees. The housing in EUR is
considered to of be middle to middle-high standard.
Housing in EUR consists
mainly of apartment buildings. These apartments can be quite large with features
like AC, garages, elevators, tennis courts etc.
For a standard 2 bedroom apartment, asking price could be from 1500 € to 2000 € month.
There are also some duplex and detached houses here but they become rarely available on the market.
EUR is well connected by the Metro and public buses but a car is still advisable to have when living in
EUR.
